王蒲令的仆人吕奉宁，生性嗜好蛇。每得小蛇，就整条吞下像吃葱的样子；大的用刀一寸寸切断，才掬而食。嚼得铮铮作响，血水沾满下巴。而且善于嗅，曾经隔着墙闻到蛇香，急奔墙外，果然得一蛇满尺。当时无佩刀，先咬其头，尾还蜿蜒在口际。
A servant of Wang Puling, named Lü Fengning, had a passion for snakes. Whenever he got a small snake, he would swallow it whole, like one eating a scallion; for a large one he would cut it into inch-long pieces with a knife before taking it up and eating it. He chewed it with a ringing crunch, the blood and water staining his chin. He had besides a keen nose; once, smelling the savor of a snake through the wall, he ran swiftly outside and indeed found one a full foot long. Having no knife at the time, he first bit off its head, while the tail still writhed at the corner of his mouth.
