郡城東嶽廟在南郭。大門左右，神高丈餘，俗名“鷹虎神”，猙獰可畏。廟中道士任姓，每雞鳴輒起焚誦。有偷兒預匿廊間，伺道士起，潛入寢室，蒐括財物。奈室無長物，惟於薦底得錢三百納腰中，拔關而出，將登千佛山。南竄許時，方至山下。見一巨丈夫自山上來，左臂蒼鷹，適與相遇。近視之，面銅青色，依稀似廟門中所習見者。大恐，蹲伏而戰。神詫曰：“盜錢安往？”偷兒益懼，叩不已。神揪令還入廟，使傾所盜錢跪守之。道士課畢，回顧駭愕。盜曆曆自述。道士收其錢而遣之。

The Dongyue Temple of the prefectural city stood in the southern suburb. At the left and right of the great gate stood two gods more than a fathom tall, commonly called the Eagle-and-Tiger Gods, fierce and fearful to behold. The priest of the temple, a man surnamed Ren, rose at cockcrow every day to burn incense and chant. A thief had hidden himself beforehand in the corridor and, when the priest rose, slipped into his bedchamber and rifled it for valuables. But the room had nothing of worth, and from beneath the mat he got only three hundred cash, which he put in his belt; then, drawing the bar, he came out and made for Thousand-Buddha Mountain. After running south for a while he reached the foot of the hill. There he saw a huge man coming down, with a gray eagle on his left arm, and they met face to face. Drawing near, the thief saw his face of a bronze-green cast, dimly like the gods he was used to seeing at the temple gate. In great fright he crouched down, trembling. The god cried, "Where are you carrying that stolen money?" The thief, the more terrified, kowtowed without end. The god seized him and made him go back into the temple, where he was made to pour out the money and kneel guarding it. When the priest had finished his chanting and looked round, he was astonished. The thief told his story plainly. The priest took the money and sent him away.
