新城的王钦文老太公家里有个姓王的养马人，起初到劳山学道，时间久了不再吃烟火食，只吃松子和白色的石头。遍体生毛。过了几年，想念母亲年老，回到乡里，渐渐恢复烟火食，但还像以前那样吃石头。对着太阳看石头，就能知道石头的甘苦酸咸，像吃芋头一样。母亲死后，他又进山了，如今又过了十七八年了。
The horse-keeper of the old gentleman Wang Qinwen of Xincheng, surnamed Wang, first went to Mount Lao to study the Way. In time he gave up cooked food and ate only pine-nuts and white stones. Hair grew all over his body. After several years, thinking of his aged mother, he returned home, gradually taking cooked food again, but still eating stones as before. Holding a stone up to the sun, he could tell its sweetness, bitterness, sourness, or saltiness, and ate it as one would a taro. After his mother's death he went back to the mountain, and it is now seventeen or eighteen years since.
